Pink and green

Posted by Will Entrekin on June 12, 2008

Just outside USC’s Leavey Library:

I like the springtime colors, even if it is a trash can.

Balls in the reflection pool

Posted by Will Entrekin on May 29, 2008

This was one of my last days at USC. I was getting a soda when I noticed there were people in the giant reflection pool in front of the library.

The giant reflection pool was, at times, a bit like a watering hole; a spot to rest, and watch, and often, socialize.

So here are people playing in it:

Those’re some big balls.

Indelible

Posted by Will Entrekin on May 25, 2008

There are in life certain moments that last through memory and time to become forever, or as close to as we ever achieve, anyway.

This is one of mine:

I may visit USC again, but I’ll never see it like this for the last time.

The fountain in full

Posted by Will Entrekin on April 15, 2008

These’ll be the last in this series; I’ve got no other pictures of the fountain.

It’s a rather unremarkable fountain, now I think of it. What really counts is how you see it.

Let’s step back a bit

Posted by Will Entrekin on April 11, 2008

I’ve often thought that understanding of quantum mechanics (not to mention the universe) is a matter of perspective; we’re too big to really observe an atom, too small to see the universe (except in increments of, what, a few hundred yards, at best?). Point is, I realized my previous labels were off; those weren’t pictures of fountains so much as pictures of fountain water.

These are pictures of a fountain:

And just to prove it’s the same fountain:

Interesting to note it’s the first time you’ve really seen it, isn’t it?

Einstein’s fountain

Posted by Will Entrekin on April 5, 2008

There’s an old story that once, while walking around Princeton’s campus, Albert Einstein paused to observe a water fountain and found his attention completely captivated. I think I read in a Reader’s Digest that a fellow ambler recalled seeing Einstein watching a fountain while waving his hand before his eyes, and that his fascination ultimately led Einstein to the theory of light being made up of discrete quanta that behave as both particles and waves.

I wonder what Einstein saw.

Edit: I had to remove one because I accidentally deleted one of the pictures from Photobucket.
